The North Star Jazz Ensemble with Special Guest George Masso Photos by Steve Mason
Rhode Island's own George Masso played in the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra when was in his early 20's, followed by a stint at the legendary Latin Quarter nightclub in New York where he was a featured soloist and wrote arrangements for nightly live radio broadcasts. He left NY to raise a family back in RI, and taught school for 18 years. While on sabbatical from the University of Connecticut he discovered that he was still in demand, left teaching and played with a who's who of swing era greats including Benny Goodman, Bucky Pizzarelli and many more. He can also be heard on the soundtrack of several Woody Allen movies. We celebrated George at a concert at Brown University on Feb 5th 2012.
